Getting a new fireplace mantle is quick and easy. First, take a picture of your existing fireplace mantle. Second, measure the width of the fireplace opening and add 4-6 inches to each side for a balanced look. Third, measure from the floor to where you want the bottom of the fireplace mantle to sit, typically 4-12 inches above the fireplace. Finally, measure how far you want the mantle to project from the wall, usually 6-10 inches.
